Middlesbrough 1-3 Manchester United: Player Ratings

Reuters / Lee Smith

Manchester United are finally out of the 6th place in the Premier League table, as their 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium has taken them to 5th.

Here’s how Jose Mourinho’s men fared during the game:

David De Gea – 6
Couldn’t do much while conceding Rudy Gestede’s close range strike. Didn’t have much to do otherwise.

Antonio Valencia – 8
Was a constant attacking threat on the right, as usual. Got a well deserved goal by pressuring Victor Valdes into making an error.

Eric Bailly – 6
Played mostly on the right. Had a much better second half, and was involved in the build-up of Lingard’s goal.

Phil Jones – 6
Got booked needlessly in the first half, but managed to remain more compact in the second.

Chris Smalling – 5.5
Managed to keep Alvaro Negredo quiet throughout the game, but was at fault whilst conceding the only goal on the day.

Ashley Young – 7
Worked well in defence as well as on the attack. His pinpoint cross led to Marouane Fellaini’s opening header.

Michael Carrick – 7
Controlled the midfield with his intelligent passes and calm presence.

Marouane Fellaini – 7
Gave United an aerial advantage, and scored a decent header from the back post to give the Reds a lead.

Jesse Lingard – 7.5
Managed to find spaces all afternoon, and capped off his performance with a sensational goal.

Juan Mata – 6
Enjoyed plenty of the ball early in the game, but his influence on the game faded in the latter stages.

Marcus Rashford – 7
Tormented the Middlesbrough defence with his pace, but was let down by his own finishing. Should have scored.

SUBSTITUTES:

Marcos Rojo – 6
Did the defensive job he was sent on to do.

Anthony Martial – NA

Matteo Darmian – NA
