Manchester United Monitoring Barcelona’s Jordi Alba Situation

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Jordi Alba as doubts over Luke Shaw’s long-term future continue. The Barcelona defender is reportedly open to move to England this summer.

Jordi Alba has been left out of Barcelona’s squad for a few important matches this season, and that has given rise to speculation. Rumours are also circulating that he is unsettled under manager Luis Enrique.

With Alba reportedly an admirer of Jose Mourinho, this move seems possible. The Portuguese manager, previously boss at Real Madrid hasn’t been completely impressed with any of United’s current left-backs. Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Daley Blind, and Marcos Rojo have all played there till now.

Shaw seems most likely to leave Old Trafford among all of these. Even though Mourinho denied any chance of the Englishman leaving in the summer, the player’s mindset itself would be interesting. He has only started two games this season. Shaw is 21, and might want to kick-start his career elsewhere.

This situation should be favourable to Alba. Barcelona manager Enrique is set to leave Camp Nou this summer though. Alba might want to wait till the new manager is announced before taking a decision. He is under contract until 2020 and is currently valued at £25 million.

His entry into the market will also spark another derby battle. Manchester City have also struggled without consistent full-backs this season. Pep Guardiola, former Barcelona manager, might look to lure Alba to the blue side of Manchester.
