Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney tops the list of players the supporters of the club want sold, according to Manchester Evening News.

The reliable local newspaper recently conducted a Fan Survey, wherein they asked the fans of the club which current Manchester United players should be offloaded by manager Jose Mourinho.

As per the results of the survey, club captain Wayne Rooney leads the list, with 50% of the total voters wanting the veteran Englishman to be shown the exit door at the end of the current campaign.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a big money move to China as well as the United States, and a return to his boyhood club Everton is also on the cards. Rooney did clear the speculation surrounding his future recently by committing his future to the Red Devils until at least the end of the ongoing season, but whether the decorated forward will remain at the club next season remains to be seen.

The player following Rooney in this survey result is defender Matteo Darmian, who received 29% of the votes.

Despite having impressed heavily in his early days at the club, the Italian has now fallen down the pecking order, with Antonio Valencia making the right-back position his very own. The 27-year-old is already being linked with a return to the Serie A, with Inter and Roma rumoured to be interested in securing his services.

Marouane Fellaini occupies the third spot in this list with 14% of the votes. The big Belgian has seen himself become a scapegoat ever since he was signed by Manchester United by David Moyes, and the midfielder continues to get picked on at present as well.

However, Mourinho continues to express his complete faith in Fellaini’s abilities, and the 29-year-old has already been rewarded with a new one-year contract extension for his performances this season.
