PSG Win Fourth Consecutive French League Cup
Paris Saint Germain were at their ruthless best last night, as they took apart a Monaco side in the final of the French League Cup in order to claim the title for the 4th year in a row.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions thrashed Monaco 4-1 in the decider of the competition, and continued to prove that despite the exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Laurent Blanc after last season, they are still at the top of the footballing levels in France.
The two clubs have met each other twice on previous occasions this season, and Unai Emery’s men were unable to win either of those games, while they also trail Monaco in the league in second place. However, PSG finally managed to emerge victorious when it mattered the most, and managed to do so in emphatic style.
The match, played in Lyon, saw the Paris club score 4 goals, with Di Maria and Draxler getting one each to their name, and Edinson Cavani bagging a brace in the second half.
Angel Di Maria put in one of his best performances of the season as the whole squad remained in control of the fixture throughout, and eased through the 90 minutes to get their hands on the silverware – a much needed uplifting after their unforgettable exit in the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona.
Monaco had their chances with Joao Moutinho and Bernard Mendy coming close, and also equalised at 1-1 through Thomas Lemar, but it was all too little to stop PSG from reaching their destination of cup success yet again.
