Jose Mourinho will make sure to lure in Raphael Varane if Real Madrid agree a deal with David De Gea, as per reports.

Real Madrid have been in the hunt for a quality goalkeeper to replace Keylor Navas between the sticks, and have identified the likes of David De Gea, along with Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma as their potential candidates.

However, with the Los Blancos looking to increase the number of Spanish players in their squad, David De Gea – the current no. 1 of the Spanish national team – is on top of their wish list.

Real almost completed the signing of the Manchester United man in the summer of 2015, but the deadline day move failed to materialise due to a broken fax machine, and the 26-year-old ended up prolonging his stay with the Red Devils.

But the La Liga giants haven’t given up on the former Atletico Madrid man just yet, and will make an attempt to sign the player yet again in the upcoming summer window.

De Gea still has a contract with Manchester United that lasts until 2019, and with no buyout clause in his contract, Real Madrid will have to cough up a humongous transfer fee to convince Jose Mourinho to let go of his prized asset.

The Portuguese is still adamant on holding onto one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but if David De Gea does decide to make a sensational return to the Spanish capital, Mourinho will reportedly make sure he gets precisely what he wants in return: one of the best defenders in the world, in the form of Real Madrid center-back Raphael Varane.

According to The Independent, Mourinho has already decided to play hardball with his former club, and will not be letting De Gea join Zinedine Zidane’s squad unless the Frenchman sends Raphael Varane the other way.

The Special One has always been a huge admirer of the 23-year-old defender, as he was the one responsible in convincing Varane to make a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu back in 2011.

Jose continues to be a fan of the France international, and believes the youngster could form a formidable long-term center-back pairing with Eric Bailly at the Theatre of Dreams. But if he fails to sign Varane, he will ensure he keeps De Gea in Manchester, and turns to an alternative defender, especially with Atletico’s José Giménez also on his radar.
