REVEALED: The 98-Man Shortlist For The 2017 Golden Boy Award
The 2017 Golden Boy Award shortlist has now been announced.
The Golden Boy Award is an annual award hosted by Italian news outlet Tuttosport, and it is given to the best football player under the age of 21 in Europe.
It has been previously awarded to some of the biggest names in the world of football at present, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, and Renato Sanches amongst the names on this glorious list of players.
And now, Tuttosport has named the 98 young players that are the nominees for this year’s award.
This shortlist consists of 14 current Premier League talents, with Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford amongst the favourites to win this individual title, thanks to the year he has had since making his debut in March 2016. The Englishman’s club teammate Timothy Fosu-Mensah has also made it to the list.
Manchester City have four representatives of their own, in the form of Tosin Adarabioyo, Pablo Maffeo, FC Twente loanee Enes Unal, and Gabriel Jesus, who is also one of the favourites.
Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn and Everton’s Tom Davies are also present, along with Stoke City duo Ramadan Sobhi and Thibaud Verlinden, Sunderland’s Joel Asuro, Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers, West Brom’s Jonathan Leko and Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke.
Other favourites for this award from across the continent include AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe, Anderlecht’s Youri Tielemans, Borussia Dortmund man Ousmane Dembele, as well as Bayern Munich midfielder and current holder of the Golden Boy Award, Renato Sanches.
