The former Southampton midfielder was touted as the next big thing in the Premier League in his time at the St Marys, which also saw him earn a £24m move to Old Trafford at the start of the previous season.

However, the 27-year old failed to cement his place under Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho and was struggling to get into the squad in the first half of the season.

Schneiderlin has today revealed why he joined Everton from the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking to the media, Schneiderlin said that Everton’s ambition towards bigger things attracted him to Goodison Park.

“This club has ambition,” Schneiderlin told Sky Sports on his move.

“They want to do great things and it has put a lot of confidence in me.

“I want Everton to reach the top and play in the Champions League. I’m just 27 and I want to do big things with this football club.

“That was the main thing for me, I wanted a club with ambition – not just to speak but to act on it.

“They brought good players last summer and they will bring good players this summer, they told me so. That’s what made me want to come.

“And I knew the players who were here already, every time I played against Everton it was hard.”
