Around 30 Nigerian Manchester United fans are believed to have been killed in a tragic accident in Calabar.
According to reports, a number of fans had gathered to watch their team in action at a sports bar in Calabar when a high-voltage cable snapped and fell on to the metal shack, electrocuting everyone inside.
Around seven people were reported dead by Police, but officials believe the number of casualties could be far greater than the initial report, as 10 more people were confirmed to be in critical condition following the tragedy.
Earlier this morning, Manchester United tweeted: “Our thoughts go out to the United fans, their friends and families affected by the tragedy in Calabar, Nigeria, yesterday.”
A statement from football’s governing body FIFA added: “FIFA is deeply saddened by the deaths of several football fans in Calabar & offer our deepest condolences to family & friends of the victims.”
