Brazilian defender Marquinhos is said to be open to making the switch from PSG to Manchester United in the summer.

According to M.E.N Sport, Manchester United are favorites and have made an enquiry to sign the defender after his move to Barcelona collapsed.

United have been interested in the Brazilian defender for some time now. Jose Mourinho explored the possibility of signing Marquinhos at the beginning of the season, but was put off by the huge price tag. Eventually, Manchester United ended up signing Eric Bailly for £30million from Villarreal.

Marquinhos, who still has 2 years left on his contract with PSG, has recently begun talks for renewing and improving his contract with the French giants.

It might be the case that he is using the interest by United to get a better contract at PSG. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Sergio Ramos have all used the Manchester United interest to earn themselves money spinning contracts at their respective clubs in recent years.

The injury crisis at Old Trafford will play an important part in United’s pursuit of Marquinhos. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling might not feature again this season for the Jose Mourinho’s team, with Rojo being suspected to be out for the remaining part of 2017.

Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Aymeric Laporte are among defensive targets for Manchester United to recruit a long term partner for Eric Bailly, but it’s Marquinhos who remains their top priority.
