Blaise Matuidi Offered A Major Contract By PSG

Manchester United transfer target Blaise Matuidi has been offered a contract extension from PSG to avert interest from the 13-time Premier League Champions.

There is no denying that Matuidi’s relationship with the PSG hierarchy has been fractured since last summer, after club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi refused to offer him a new deal. A proposal was eventually put together in the autumn, but the French international was only offered a two-year extension, with his salary almost halved.

Matuidi’s contract expires at the end of the next season, and the Ligue 1 Champions have now come up with improved terms to keep hold of their star midfielder.

According to the French Newspaper Le Parisien, PSG have tabled a new deal for Matuidi, but he is not interested in extending his contract. The former Saint-Etienne man is weighing his options ahead of the summer market, and even if the contract extension is signed, the report claims that Matuidi could still leave PSG in favour of a move to the Premier League.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is keenly monitoring the situation of the unsettled midfielder, as he is desperate to bolster his midfield options for next season. The Portuguese feels that Matuidi would be an ideal candidate to replace Michael Carrick, who is set to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The Red Devils are also conducting talks with the 30-year-old’s agent, Mino Raiola, who has placed several major stars to Old Trafford in the last 12 months, including Matuidi’s international teammate Paul Pogba.

One thing that Manchester United cannot offer Matuidi with certainty is Champions League Football, as they are still fighting for the top four finish in the current season.

And with Barcelona are also setting their sights on the midfielder, Manchester United’s failure to qualify for Champions League could lead to Matuidi signing for the five-time European Champions this summer.
