Here’s How Mourinho Convinced Ivan Perisic To Join United
Manchester United are close to landing Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, and a dialogue with Jose Mourinho is what convinced the player.
The Red Devils have managed to step into the Champions League on the final game of their season when they beat Ajax in the Europa League final. However, Mourinho reportedly started negotiations for his players long ago.
According to reports from Italy’s Premium Sport on Saturday, Mourinho spoke to the Croatian midfielder on his trip to Zagreb a couple of months ago. The Manchester United manager was in Croatia during a break, and the 24Sata newspaper made sure that they covered his every move.
A piece of their story on the Portuguese’s trip read: ‘He landed at 11.15 in a private plane and went to a Zagreb hotel. The famous Jose Mourinho, the third time he came to Zagreb, this time because of Ivan Perisic.’
And that story was picked up by many news outlets, who reported that Manchester United were closing in on his signature.
It was earlier estimated that Inter Milan are ready to offload him for around £50m, and though United were reportedly ready to meet his valuation, recent reports suggest otherwise.
Also wanted by PSG, Ivan Perisic is a versatile midfielder, and Mourinho is reportedly desperate for him. However, he is not ready to splash €50m on a 28-year-old, and is reportedly ready to start negotiations at €40m.
Perisic is currently in demand, and United are frontrunners for his signature, and it is clear that his time spent in Croatian, trying to persuade the midfielder, is what has helped him to this position.
