Manchester United have cooled their interest in Fabinho and have pulled out of the race to sign him, according to reports.

Fabinho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but according to Manchester Evening News, sources at Old Trafford are insisting that his name does not feature on the list of players Jose Mourinho handed over to Ed Woodward to recruit this summer.

The Brazilian is set to be a part of a Monaco exodus, with several of the club’s best players being linked with moves to various clubs. Bernardo Silva, who was also a Mourinho target, ended up signing for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Kylian Mbappe are also set to follow him out of the club.

Fabinho is currently one of the hottest properties on the market, with several of Europe’s elite clubs desperate to snap him up. He has been in superb form for Monaco and enjoyed a magnificent season with the French side, as they made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, Mourinho is understood to be keen on pursuing targets in more crucial areas of the pitch. The 55-year-old is in the hunt for a quality central defensive midfielder who will support and allow Paul Pogba to play his best football in more advanced positions on the pitch.

Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic are the two names that have been constantly linked with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams, and Mourinho is said to be keen on signing either one of them.

The Portuguese boss was the man who re-signed Matic for Chelsea, and is a massive fan of the holding midfielder. With N’Golo Kante now taking center stage, the Blues may look to sign more midfielders to strengthen their squad, and this could mean less playing time for the Serbian, who is believed to be open for a reunion with his former boss.

Dier, on the other hand, has been used as a center-back at Tottenham by Mauricio Pochettino. Despite his brilliant performances in the position, the Englishman has often admitted that his best position is in the middle of the park.

Therefore, the prospect of working for a manager like Mourinho, who is willing to offer him the position he desires at a club like United, could be too tempting an offer to turn down.

United have already confirmed the signing of one their prime targets – a center-back in the form of Victor Lindelof. They are now keen on signing a defensive midfielder, a winger, and a striker this summer, and are ready to spend big once more in order to do so.
