Manchester United have tabled a £30m transfer bid for their long-term transfer target Nelson Semedo, according to reports in the Mirror.

Semedo has made 65 appearances for the club since breaking into the first-team back in 2015, and has been one of the stand-out performers for Benfica in the 2016-17 season with his electric pace, which has caused nightmares for the opposition.

Due to his exploits last season, he has been one of the most sought after players in World Football, and Manchester United have been linked with him for many months.

In fact, the Red Devils made constant efforts to sign Semedo in the January transfer window, but Benfica were reluctant to sell their star player at such a crucial time in the campaign.

After failing to land the talented Portuguese in Winter, United are desperate to sign him this summer, and as per reports, they have tabled a £30m bid to lure him away from Portugal.

Despite Antonio Valencia having a stellar 2016-17 season, Jose Mourinho wants another player at the right side of the defence to provide a backup for the Ecuadorian.

Also, with Manchester United set to compete for Premier League and European glory next season, having two quality options at right-back is essential to avoid any struggles next season.

Plus, considering the fact that Valencia turns 32 before the start of the new season, Semedo could be a long-term solution for United at the right full-back position.

Apart from United, Barcelona have also been in the race to sign the highly-rated full-back, but they now appear to be prioritising the capture of Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin, potentially leaving the road clear for the English giants.

Semedo could be the second signing for United, after they secured a £31m deal for his teammate Victor Lindelof last week.
