English powerhouses Chelsea and Manchester United have held preliminary talks with Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, according to Sky Sports.

Both these Premier League giants have been on the lookout for a new striker this summer, with Antonio Conte looking for a replacement for the departing Diego Costa, and Jose Mourinho searching for a worthy successor for the released Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Blues as well as the Red Devils have so far been linked with similar attacking targets, with Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Everton talisman Romelu Lukaku rumoured to be on both the clubs’ radars. And now, a new name has been added to this common list, in the form of Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international had a sensational campaign with the Bavarian giants last season, and his 30 goals played an enormous role in helping his team defend their Bundesliga title. However, he fell just a goal short in bagging the league’s top goalscorer prize, as he was beaten to it by Borussia Dortmund frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Failure to win the Bundesliga Golden Boot did not go down too well with Lewandowski, though, who was left devastated and frustrated with his teammates’ inability to help him claim the individual accolade.

The 28-year-old spoke of his disappointment with Polish Super-Express, and revealed: “I was not really happy with how my team helped me. I was annoyed and disappointed with the team’s attitude.”

Furthermore, his agent Maik Barthel told German football magazine Kicker: “Robert told me that he got no support and that the coach (Carlo Ancelotti) gave no call to help him win the top-scorer title in the last game. He was disappointed as I have ever seen him before.”

This lack of support seems to have unsettled the world-class forward, and Chelsea as well as Manchester United now look to take full advantage of this situation, after having opened talks with Lewandowski’s representatives over a potential summer switch on Tuesday.

As per Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, however, the Polish superstar currently prefers a move to London, but the Red Devils remain more than keen to turn the tide in their favour and secure the player’s services.
