Serie A champions Juventus have confirmed the release of Dani Alves after a one-year stint at the club.

The ex-Barca player is eyeing a reunion with Pep Guardiola, as a possible Manchester City move seems imminent after Juventus’s confirmation.

The 34-year-old player informed earlier this week that he would be leaving Turin this summer, and the club has reciprocated the same. The full-back is now expected to play a major role in Pep Guardiola’s re-invented side next season, as they had let go of Bacary Sagna as well as Pablo Zabaleta at the end of the last season.

The situation sits quite similar to his entry into Juventus one year ago, when he joined the Bianconeri whilst having one year left on his contract with Barcelona. After having served for 8 years at the Catalan club, he moved to Italy, and is now moving on again.

Despite suffering a broken leg in November last year, he made a return back into the starting lineup, helping Juventus win both the Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Unfortunately, the Italian club could not complete a treble, as they lost to Real Madrid 4-1 in the finals of the Champions League at Cardiff.

With Pep Guardiola eyeing more players in the same position, Alves may have to fight some competition coming from a possible Kyle Walker move to Manchester City.

The official statement from Juventus said: ‘Juventus Football Club is to part company with Dani Alves after agreeing to a termination of the player’s contract.

‘Alves lifted 2 trophies in his single season in Turin, contributing to a third consecutive domestic league and cup double for the club before helping the team reach the UEFA Champions League final. The Brazilian made a total of 33 appearances for the Bianconeri, having a hand in 12 goals (6 goals, 6 assists), 7 of which came in European matches.’

Manchester City have already done quite a bit of their shopping this summer, acquiring Bernardo Silva from Monaco and Ederson from Benfica. With several other targets being closely watched, there are quite a few players yet to be revealed in the new lineup for the Etihad outfit next season.
