Top Transfer Rumours of the Day: John Terry, Chicharito, Iborra, And More
1. Javier Hernandez To West Ham United
What’s the story?
Sky Sports have come up with one of the most surprising transfer rumours of the window so far, as they claim that West Ham United have held talks with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer possibility of striker Javier Hernandez. The Mexican is apparently being targeted by the Hammers, as they look to strengthen their strike force and turn around a disappointing 2016/17 season.
Should the deal take place?
The player has had experience of playing in the Premier League before, as he was an integral part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s United before he turned into merely a bench warmer under David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal, and eventually left the club in 2015.
The striker found form in Germany and netted 37 times for the Bundesliga side over the past two seasons. If he manages to accept the offer on the table, he will have to come back to England to face a challenge of a different order, but it might be a chance to show the Premiership what it had been missing.
Possibility of it happening
Slaven Bilic is currently also eyeing Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Kelechi Iheanacho among a few, and where Chicharito fits on that list is yet to be seen. Therefore, the possibility of him coming back to England is currently 6/10.
2. John Terry To Aston Villa
What’s the story?
Ex-English skipper and Chelsea legend John Terry surprised quite a few earlier today when he put pen to paper for Aston Villa, joining the Championship side on a free transfer. The club took to their official twitter page as they revealed the signing in a unique manner, through a hilariously made up Whatsapp conversation. The player has joined Steve Bruce’s side on a one-year deal, with Villa being the club he made his Chelsea debut against in 1998.
Should the deal have taken place?
At 36, Terry is still one of the best defenders in England and had no shortage of offers, as clubs like Bournemouth, Swansea and West Brom were all eager to get their man. However, with hopes of a managerial post in the future, Villa seems like the perfect destination for Mr. Chelsea, as they also offer him £60,000 a week.
While speaking to the media post his unveiling, he said that his aim was to secure promotion for the side by the end of the season, and the prospect of facing Chelsea kept him away from the Premier League.
3. Vicente Iborra To Leicester City
What’s the story?
Fallen Premier League Champions Leicester City are looking for ways to bring their team back on track, and as per reports mentioned in Sky Sports, Vicente Iborra seems to be a solution they look forward to achieving. The Sevilla captain impressed Craig Shakespeare when the two sides met in the Champions League last season, and is now a target for the Foxes.
Should the deal take place?
The player is a three time Europa League winner, and managed to score seven goals for the Spanish team last season, and given his height and presence, he will be an ideal fit in an attacking Leicester City squad. The amount needed to avail his services is said to be £12.5m, and with Riyad Mahrez leaving, a player of high quality is needed at the club. Moreover, given his leadership qualities, he could turn into an instant hero in England.
Possibility of it happening
Sources have it that the defensive midfielder is eager to play in England’s most elite league, and hence, a strong possibility of 8/10 of his transfer exists.
4. Wayne Rooney To Everton
What’s the story?
Sky Sports have provided further update on the Wayne Rooney situation, as the player is still facing the prospect of joining former club Everton as he prepares to say goodbye to Old Trafford in the summer.
Should the deal take place?
The Toffees have been eyeing their former hero for a while now, and after he left them in 2004, a reunion might finally be on the cards. Although the records and stats are in Rooney’s favour, age might come across as a factor for any club to reconsider chasing him. But given his lack of game time under Mourinho and him falling out of favour in Man United, heading to Merseyside and ending things where they started might be the best choice to make.
Possibility of it happening
The chances of Wayne Rooney coming back to his boyhood club are currently 6/10.
