The Croatian has been a high priority target for the Red Devils this summer, and they are closer than ever on striking a deal with Inter Milan. Though the Italians are adamant on their asking price of £48 million for the 28-year-old, United are confident they can bring the winger to Old Trafford.
On the other hand, the Nerazzurri have rejected previous bids for Perisic, including a deal which would’ve seen Matteo Darmian go the other way. But, United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on signing the Croatian international, and has stepped up his efforts for the completion of the move.
The versatile winger has been of great service to the Italian side, scoring 11 goals and assisting 9 times across all competitions last season, which seems to have raised the Portuguese manager’s interest in him.
Recently, the Premier League giants reportedly made a bid worth £39 million, which was rejected. And it now appears that the signing will most likely be completed for a fee around £45 million.
The talented winger’s future has been up in the air for quite some time, and Inter boss Luciano Spalletti had some interesting comments to make when quizzed about the topic last week.
Spalletti was quoted as saying: “You (the media) keep talking about Perisic and his desire to leave but I need to listen to his own words first and then decide how to act. I hope to have him in the side, I am counting on it and I am positive in that sense.”
Meanwhile, Perisic has joined up with the Inter squad at their training camp in North Italy, but his transfer is expected to be completed before the Serie A giants head to China for their pre-season tour next week.
