Romelu Lukaku has revealed that Paul Pogba intentionally used to drive him past Old Trafford to give him ideas of joining Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku’s £75 million transfer to Manchester United has been the highlight of the transfer window so far. The Belgian ditched his former club Chelsea to join Old Trafford, in a move that surprised many of the football fans around the world.

And now that the transfer is completed, Lukaku has opened up about the factors that led him to choosing Manchester United as his next destination.

In a recent interview, the former Everton striker lifted the lid on his special friendship with Paul Pogba, and it being a major reason in his transfer.

“I spoke with Paul a lot, obviously. We spent our holiday together and he said: ‘What do you want to do? I told him that I was thinking a lot about signing for United, something was telling me [to do it],” Lukaku said.

The Belgian also talked about his car drives to the city of Manchester with Paul Pogba, by adding: “I live near Manchester so, when I was coming to the city, I would drive past Old Trafford and ask my mates what they thought. Me and Paul, we’d go to the city to have dinner and he’d drive past Old Trafford on purpose.”

Lukaku and Pogba are currently training together in USA, where Manchester United are undergoing their pre-season tour. The Red Devils return to action on 9th August in the UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
