Man Utd To Make A Move For French Winger After Failing To Sign Bale And Ronaldo
Jose Mourinho has set his sights on securing a quality winger for Manchester United.
Over the summer, the club has been linked with countless names for the position, most notably the likes of Ivan Perišić and Gareth Bale, as well as talks of a return of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, all of them have failed to materialize into a signing.
Now, reports in the Daily Record claim that the Red Devils hope to sign Monaco winger and long term Arsenal target Thomas Lemar before the transfer window winds up later this month. The 21-year-old was crucial in Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph last season, having netted 14 goals and assisted 17 more in 55 appearances for the club.
Moreover, priced at €60 million, the Frenchman would certainly be a less expensive alternative to Perisic, whose soaring price tag has been the matter of disagreement between Inter and United.
Furthermore, the youngster seems like an ideal choice for the Portuguese manager, whose preferred playing style dictates talent that is able to play anywhere on the front line. Lemar fits this profile brilliantly, having flourished on the left flank last season despite personally preferring to cause damage through the center.
However, if the signing does occur, it might spell the end of one of the many midfield-cum-forwards at Old Trafford who prefer the spot. The signing dilemma that a potential arrival would create wouldn’t be healthy for the English giants.
Moreover, having already lost a string of brilliant talents such as Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko, it is highly unlikely that Monaco will be willing to easily let go of the starlet.
And if the deal escalates into another highly inflated transfer fee being dictated by the French club, the United boss will most probably be swift at ending the talks.
If the Red Devils hope to pose a decent bet at the Champions League title and cement their pursuit of securing Premier League glory, Mourinho must certainly do something about his forwards, and quick.
