OFFICIAL: Blaise Matuidi Completes Juventus Move
Juventus have officially confirmed the signing of Blaise Matuidi from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £18 million.
Matuidi had been a crucial player for the Parisian club since his move to the club in 2011, and he won four league titles, three French Cups, and four League Cups during his time with the Ligue 1 side.
The financial details and the length of the contract are yet to be confirmed by either club, but reports suggest that the Serie A champions have signed him for around £18 million plus add-ons.
The French midfielder’s transfer is actually quite a scoop for the Turin club – £18 million is a ridiculously modest fee for any player in today’s market.
The 30-year-old did have only one year left to run on his contract with PSG though, and their desperation to balance the books after signing Neymar for £198 million this summer meant that they couldn’t afford to miss out on a chance to sell one of their players.
PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke about Matuidi’s exit by stating: “I will always have great memories of Blaise’s six seasons with our club. He is a player who played every match with generosity and a permanent desire to win everything, earning admiration from everyone.
“Blaise will remain in our hearts and he will always be welcome in the big PSG family. We wish him every success in his first challenge abroad and every success with the France national team in this World Cup season.”
Matuidi actually landed in Turin on Wednesday, and also completed his medical on the same day. A few minor formalities delayed the move though, and PSG have confirmed that it has finally gone through now.
He has been included in the Bianconeri squad that will face Cagliari tomorrow, where he is expected to make his debut for the club.
