‘The Best Midfielder In The World’ Is At Old Trafford

Anthony Martial has heaped praise on his fellow team-mate and countryman Paul Pogba, claiming that the Frenchman is ‘the best midfielder in the world.’

Pogba became the world’s most expensive player last summer, when he signed for Manchester United for a then world record fee of £89.3 million. During his first season back at the club he had left for peanuts back in 2013, the 24-year-old struggled to live up to expectations. He often went missing in games, and to many fans, it felt like United had paid way too much for a player whose performances were only worth half that amount.

However, the France international has sought out his doubters, and is beginning to prove them wrong one by one. Since Nemanja Matic signed for the club, Pogba has been given more freedom to roam about and take up good positions higher up the field, where he can directly influence goals, and so far it has worked wonders. The midfielder has already scored two goals in two games, and is looking a lot more confident on the ball than he did last year.

His improvement has left fans purring, as United aim to get back to their title winning ways. Anthony Martial, who has started both games on the bench so far, has also been instrumental, and he too has scored two goals so far, despite only having 20 minutes under his belt.

The former Monaco starlet was speaking about his team-mate and good friend to MUTV for an upcoming documentary about Pogba, and claimed that the midfielder has what it takes to be the best player in the world in five years from now.

Martial was quoted as saying: “Paul is very mentally strong and he is very sure of himself. He is a big guy, he is very technical on the ball and he has lots of endurance. I would say he is probably the best midfield player in the world. He is still young, too, so he has a lot to work on and he can get even better.

“As a person you can see he is always the same. He is funny, always smiling, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, I always see him laughing and he is a good friend of mine. He is the same person on and off the pitch, and he’ll continue to be like this.

“We want to win a lot of trophies together at United, and we also want to win the World Cup with France. If he continues to play and improve like he is doing then I think he is also going to win the Ballon d’Or award in the next five years.”
