Manchester United Favorites To Sign Arsenal Target

Manchester United are set to make an attempt to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco, according to reports.

Lemar has been an Arsenal target for much of this summer, and reports have constantly linked the winger with a switch to the Emirates. However, it has now emerged that United will attempt to convince him otherwise, and are determined to ensure that he ends up at Old Trafford instead.

Jose Mourinho has been desperate for a fourth signing to join the club, preferably a winger, and the 21-year-old fits the bill perfectly with his ability to play on either flank or down the middle.

United seem to have taken advantage of the Gunners dilly-dallying over the move, and are prepared to meet Monaco’s demands for Lemar, who fill be the final piece in Mourinho’s jigsaw should the deal go through.

Ian McGarry, a respected former broadcaster and current journalist, believes that United are now in the ‘driving seat’ to sign the Frenchman, and that Mourinho’s ability to go on the offensive when it comes to convincing players to join his team will play a big role in securing Lemar’s signature.

McGarry stated: “I’d say Manchester United are in the driving seat right now (for Lemar). I think Wenger was depending on the whole French connection at Arsenal, bringing in a player who obviously has played for the (French) national team with Giroud, Lacazette, Koscielny and others.

“But they haven’t got the deal over the line yet and they’ve been trying for six weeks. And if Manchester United did come in with the right offer and the right contract and the charm and charisma of Jose Mourinho telling a player how he’ll play, where he’ll play as he does.”
