Arsene Wenger has admitted defeat in his pursuit of Thomas Lemar from Monaco

Thomas Lemar had been a target for Arsenal throughout the transfer window, but boss Arsene believes that Monaco have now closed the door on a possible move. Monaco have seen many of their key players leave during the transfer window, but the French giants are now believed to be adamant on keeping Lemar.

Arsene Wenger was quizzed about Lemar in his press conference on Thursday, to which the French manager replied: “It’s dead because Monaco have closed the door definitely.”

The news brought big disappointment for Arsenal fans, who were positive about getting Lemar during the transfer window.

Wenger also talked about the possible transfer activity during the last few days of transfer window, by adding: “It depends how many players will go to see if we can bring one more in. We are on alert in the last seven days.

“Everybody gets agitated and phones ring more often than before. Sometimes you have to share the work in the final day because you have some cases going out and some coming in. The last two days are always very hectic.”

Arsene was asked about the possibility of Mustafi leaving to join Inter Milan as well, to which he replied: “It’s difficult for me to speak about any individual cases because we are now in the final seven days of the transfer market. It’s always very difficult to predict what will happen there.”
