Explained: The Reason Why PSG Are Blocking Serge Aurier’s United Move
Serge Aurier reportedly wants to sign for Manchester United, but PSG are desperate to sell the Ivory Coast International to Tottenham.
Following the arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus this summer, there is no doubt that Aurier, who is already behind Thomas Meunier in the pecking order, could be considered as the third-choice right back at the club.
And knowing his situation at the French capital, the 24-year-old had already made his intentions to leave the club clear to Unai Emery, and from then on, several elite clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona and Manchester City have been interested in signing im.
Barcelona and Manchester City cooled off their interest following the signings of Nelson Semedo and Kyle Walker respectively. Manchester United and Tottenham, though, are still in the hunt, with the recent reports claiming that the North London club is well ahead in the race to sign the full-back before the transfer window closes.
However, the latest reports in France claim that Aurier very much prefers a move to Manchester United, but PSG would rather sell him to Tottenham instead. Furthermore, reports in SFR claim that Tottenham came up with a much higher bid to buy Aurier than what United are willing to pay.
Spurs have been quiet for the majority of the summer transfer window, and have only managed to pull off the transfer of Ajax defender Davidson Sanchez.
Considering their mediocre start to the 2017-18 season, there is no doubt that Pochettino needs more options to compete strongly not only in the Premier League, but also in the Champions League. Therefore, Aurier would probably be a direct replacement for Kyle Walker if Tottenham seal the deal before the deadline day.
