Done Deal: Chelsea Announce Yet Another ‘Hazard’ Transfer

As far as footballing families go, few can hope to match the talent and ability of the Hazards from Belgian. While Eden Hazard’s name is renowned amongst Premier League talent, what with the 26-year old’s antics leading to repeated comparison with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, his three other brothers remain relatively unknown.

However, that may soon change for 22-year-old Kylian Hazard, who on Tuesday signed a contract with Chelsea, having departed from his former Hungarian side Újpest FC.

His signing means that Chelsea have had signed three Hazards – Eden, Kylian, and Thorgan. While Eden and Thorgan were both signed together in 2012, only the elder Hazard was able to break through into the senior squad, whereas 24-year-old Thorgan was subjected to loan spells with Zulte Waregem.

In 2015, he permanently switched to German side Borussia Mönchengladbach, and is now an integral part of their attacking front. He, just like his other two brothers, has functioned as a central attacking midfielder as well as a winger during the various stages of his career.

However, Kylian won’t be breaking into the first team immediately, as he is set to function amongst Chelsea’s development squad, and it will be a while before he is able to impress Antonio Conte enough to be granted an audience at Stamford Bridge.

Currently, he may make his debut with the secondary squad as early as September 9, when they face Sunderland.

Thierry Hazard, their father, played professional football too, having been employed by Belgian Second Division side La Louviere. His wife, Carine, is a player of the game as well, having played at the top level for the women’s side in Belgium. The youngest of the brothers, Ethan, just 14 years old, plays for the youth academy of Trubisz.

While Eden Hazard has already tasted success in the form of two Premier League trophies and a PFA award, the hunger for more is clear. It remains to be seen whether Kylian will follow his footsteps in that regard too.
