Zlatan Ibrahimovic re-signed for Manchester United after getting released at the end of last season. The Swede was a free agent during the summer transfer window, after he was released by the Red Devils because of a feared long term injury.

However, the player made an unexpected early return from to make Jose Mourinho sign him yet again at the Old Trafford. But it is being reported that Manchester United weren’t the only big European club who wanted the big striker.

According to Spanish newspaper Don Balon, Real Madrid wanted to add the legendary forward to their team as well, and a transfer was very close to being finalized. However, Los Blancos’ superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had the final say on the matter, and the Portuguese international used his power to block the transfer.

Ronaldo is known to have a big ego, as he likes to be the main man in his team. Quite similarly, Zlatan has a huge ego of his own, which was not welcomed by the Real Madrid talisman at the Bernabeu. Therefore, the ex-Man United star apparently made it clear that he wouldn’t want to play alongside Ibrahimovic and share the limelight he craves.

Thus, the La Liga giants had no choice but to drop the pursuit of the Swedish striker, as they did not want to upset their superstar. Understandably, Zinedine Zidane would have liked to add a forward of Zlatan’s quality to his options, especially after the sale of Alvaro Morata to Chelsea.
