Antoine Griezmann was the most anticipated signing for Manchester United this summer, having been linked with the English giants throughout the previous campaign. However, the highly rated forward opted to stay in the La Liga, after his current club Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban imposed by FIFA was confirmed.

The ban, which would render the side incapable of making any signings till January 2018, ensured that they wouldn’t be able to secure a replacement for the 26-year old, which persuaded him to stay on. But now, the recent developments might ensure that the Frenchman will arrive at Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Sources close to the club have revealed to ESPN that the Red Devils have lined up a mega bid to sign Griezmann. This offer is believed to be a direct result of Atletico re-signing Diego Costa from Chelsea last week.

The coveted striker, who is finally free from Chelsea, can be officially utilized by the Spanish side when their ban lifts in January. As a result, he may be a ready response to Griezmann’s departure, as Costa will be more than eager to return to his goal-scoring days. Further, it may also provide them with an opportunity to look at other options as well.

Moreover, the main reason why the deal is still freshly desired by United is that the Frenchman, despite signing a contract renewal this summer, opted to keep his €100 million release clause intact. It is this very clause that the Mancunian club will be eager to activate to ensure the signing.

Post-transfer ban, Griezmann will have no moral responsibility to stay any longer, and that may just be the final tipping point to ensure his move to England, where the Premier League and Manchester United will undoubtedly provide the player with a much-needed challenge.
