A well-thinking tactician is nothing without a set of able players to execute his ideas with finesse on the pitch. Jose Mourinho has always been gifted with such players wherever he’s managed at, be it at Chelsea, or Real Madrid.

At Manchester United too, he enjoys a brilliant platter of talent from which to choose, differing in their abilities across the spectrum. Of these, however, a select few occupy a special spot.

According to Danny Blind, Daley Blind’s father, who has also enjoyed stints at the helm of Ajax and the Dutch national side, there are six such players in the current squad of the English giants that Jose Mourinho considers undroppable.

In an interview with Ziggo Sport (via MEN), Blind senior revealed: “They are David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, who is currently injured, Romelu Lukaku, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.”

As to the importance that Mourinho attributes to them, Blind added: “For Mourinho, that is the frame of his side. Valencia is also his captain. Around these six chosen ones, he keeps changing the players.

“Sometimes he makes a choice between Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial. Sometimes it is [Daley] Blind or Ashley Young or, rarely, Matteo Darmian.”

It is undeniable that the named group has been at the heart of United’s renewed success so far this season, having made a total of 54 collective starts already.
