German midfielder Leon Goretzka has been the subject of interest from several top European clubs, as they continue to monitor the youngster’s progress at Schalke 04.

Out of the several heavyweights interested in the player, Spanish giants Barcelona too, were said to be taking note of the 22-year-old player.

But now, as per Manchester Evening News, Barca’s international scout Ariedo Braida has gone on to reveal that the club has pulled out of the race to sign the talented player from Schalke next summer.

Braida has gone on to say that despite Goretzka being a great player, the demand of the Catalan club is extremely high. He was quoted as saying: “He is certainly a great player, but for Barcelona it is too soon. I travel around the world in search of great talent, but our demands are extremely high.”

This has now left the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United in firm position to get hold of the player, with his current deal at Schalke due to expire at the end of the season. Both Bayern and United are looking to add to their midfield options, and value the player as a future prospect with a lot of potential.

Goretzka has scored two goals in seven Bundesliga appearances for Schalke this season, and four times for the German national team since June.
