Manchester United are preparing to let go one of their defenders in the upcoming winter transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils own a plethora of defenders, and following the addition of Victor Lindelof last summer, United boss Jose Mourinho is set to sell one of his defenders once the transfer window reopens in January.

The pattern could be similar to last year, when Mourinho didn’t bring in any new signings over the winter, but instead released multiple players, viz. Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

And now, as per Calciomercato via (Team Talk), the Portuguese is preparing to put either Daley Blind or Matteo Darmian up for sale.

The duo hasn’t been among the primary candidates to be picked by the United boss, and neither of them have really made a solid impact this campaign, with Blind having featured seven times and Darmian just four.

However, Mourinho is willing to let go of only one of these two, and as it appears both the stars have buyers lining up to engage in a bidding war. Blind is wanted by Galatasaray, and Darmian has been heavily linked with a return to Italy over the past few months.

Darmian admitted last week that a possible return to Serie A was something that he was open to, as he revealed: “I made a choice [to come to Manchester United] and I don’t regret it.

“Of course it’s normal that any player wants to play as much as possible. I work hard every week and I’ll keep doing it. I don’t always watch Italian football and I don’t know what will happen in future, maybe there will be a chance to come back one day.”
