Steven Gerrard Names The Club He Believes Will Win The Champions League
Steven Gerrard is no stranger to the UEFA Champions League, leading his 2005 Liverpool side to a history-defining victory. Naturally, the Englishman knows the competition better than most, and has predicted his thoughts on who’d be crowned as champions of Europe this season.
The Reds hold the record for most European honours in England with an incredible 5 trophies. Though their drought continues in the Premier League, they managed to emerge victorious over a decade ago.
Gerrard earned legendary status for his performance in Istanbul back in 2005, to drag the Reds from a 3-0 trail at half-time to a penalty shoot-out, which the Merseyside outfit dramatically won.
Naturally, the former Liverpool skipper knew what he was talking about when he predicted Manchester City as possible European champions at the end of the campaign. He stated: “They put down a real marker with their result last night. I think Man City will win the Champions League.”
Pep Guardiola’s summer spending has clearly been paid off, as his side has been flying high since the start of the season, and also leads the Premier League by 2 points. Though they look very much like a strong contender for the title, however, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG make the situation more intriguing.
