Barcelona are preparing to launch bids for two RB Leipzig starlets, as the club aims to build a team for the next generation.

The Catalans have been linked with a number of exciting young players recently, including the likes of Anthony Martial and Philippe Coutinho. At the moment, a number of the club’s first-team stars are just over the age of 30, and this is a point of concern for the board.

It is no wonder then, that the players being linked to the club are mostly under the age of 25. At the moment, the most recent rumours have suggested that the La Liga giants are preparing moves for German club RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Dayot Upamecano.

With Ousmane Dembele out for the long-term and Lionel Messi now 30 years old, Barca are looking to bring in a new wide player, and Werner, who is only 21, appears to fit the bill. The German is one of the most exciting prospects in world football at the moment, and his talent has attracted a few prying eyes.

It is the same scenario for Upamecano, who is 19 years old, but also very highly rated, and seen as a potential future star. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca president Robert Fernandez was in the stands as Leipzig suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, supposedly to watch the duo in action.

Calciomercato, though, claim that the Blaugrana are not alone in the race for Upamecano, and will face stern competition from United, who are also tracking the defender intently. The Red Devils remain unconvinced with Victor Lindelöf and Chris Smalling, and could bring in Upamecano to be the first backup option to Eric Bailly and Phil Jones if either player gets injured.
