Barcelona Will Have To Pay £89m If They Want To Sign This Defender

French players have been expensive as of late, and their young talents seem to be the very definition of priceless. What started with Anthony Martial took a huge turn this summer with the big money moves of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembélé.

Now, another youngster of French origins has a big price tag attached to him, and Jose Mourinho won’t be too happy about it. RB Leipzig’s young defender, Dayot Upamecano, was revealed to have a release clause of £89 million in his contract. The 19-year-old center-back is a target for many big names such as Barcelona, AC Milan, and Arsenal.

However, as per Spanish outlet Sport, he is more likely to join Barcelona. This will be positive news for Ernesto Valverde, who is looking at the teenager as the ideal replacement for the aging Javier Mascherano. The youngster would serve as a relief to their otherwise injury-stricken backline as well.

But one person who won’t at all be happy about the enormous sum is Jose Mourinho, who has had Upamecano on his radar for quite some time. While it is assured that the talent will be a rewarding one, Man Utd are simply not interested in dishing out that big of an amount for a defender who, for the time being, is still a work in progress.

The same applies to the other clubs as well. The Spanish giants alone might be willing to go for the deal, solely due to their desperation to land a defensive player.

In addition to the youngster, Timo Werner too, might be looked at by the management at Camp Nou, perhaps as a replacement for Luis Suarez. If rumors of the dual swoop have any substance to it, then one can be assured of the giants splashing big.
