Contract deals in the world of football take a different shape, from the usual salary demands and expiration dates to ridiculous release clauses and bizarre conditions. And in the case of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it’s no different, as he reveals the must-have condition he wants in all of his club contracts.

The United striker arrived at Old Trafford back in 2016 on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and donned the no. 9 jersey. But since then, Ibrahimovic has ran down his contract and lost his shirt number, which is currently sported by new arrival Romelu Lukaku.

However, the Swede was offered another contract by the Red Devils this season despite his injury. And this time, the former PSG superstar took on the no. 10 shirt, which according to him, is precisely what he wanted.

Turns out, it has always been a strict condition in all the contracts of the former Swedish international that he be given the popular no. 10 kit.

So why did he settle for the no. 9 jersey upon his arrival at Old Trafford? Well, that’s simply because Zlatan respected Wayne Rooney’s status as a club favourite and legend.

Here’s what the decorated forward said (via Telegraph): “To me, No.10 is the star. The one who makes the difference, gets noticed, wins the matches and is the leader.

“And I see myself in that position but it is not something that is given to you, it is just something you are, that’s just the way it is. I feel like a ten and I stand for No.10.

“No one says ‘No.10 is available. In my case, when I join a new team, I get No.10 because I feel like a No.10. When I come to a club, it should be in the contract that I will have No. 10”
