Manchester United have decided to sell two of their full-backs in the upcoming January transfer window, as they have identified players that could come in and bolster the squad.

The duo that the Old Trafford outfit is in favour of doing away with consists of Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian, as per The Sun.

Darmian, who joined under Louis van Gaal in 2015, has played only 10 games this season, and his performances have failed to excite his manager and fans alike.

The Italian’s subdued performance against FC Basel in the last Champions League group encounter was a symbol of his decline, as United lost the match 1-0.

Darmian does have the attributes of playing at both right- and left-back positions, and several Serie A clubs are said to be monitoring his situation in England.

Meanwhile, Shaw was touted to be one of the greatest left-backs for both United and the Three Lions, but his injuries and lack of form has been a hurdle.

Both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have questioned the left-back’s attitude at times, and with just two substitute appearances in his bag this term, he looks set to face the cull.

United want Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose, and feel they could initiate a swap deal for Shaw. The Red Devils value the youngster around £20 million, and feel they could cash in on him soon.

Regarding Darmian, the Mancunian outfit could extract a similar amount, and Jose is said to be keen on promoting youngster Alex Tuanzebe into the senior side as a cover for Antonio Valencia.

Darmian still has a chance to change Jose’s mind, especially with the busy schedule in December across the festive period, where the Portuguese will be rotating his squad.
