Jose Mourinho is looking for some big moves in the winter transfer window. With Manchester United 8 points behind rivals City, the Portuguese is desperate to make some changes to the team in order to keep the club up in the ongoing race.

However, the Red Devils’ plan to bring long-term target Leon Goretzka at Old Trafford in January appears to have received a major blow, as Schalke officials have announced that he will be sidelined for another few months due to the recurrence of a leg injury.

As per reports from Daily Mail, a Schalke representative broke the news of Goretzka’s serious injury via twitter.

The tweet read: “Leon Goretzka has suffered a recurrence of the injury in his lower leg. In order to put these continuous and worsening pains to bed, Leon will undergo examinations over the coming days.”

The 22-year-old was supposed to be a hot prospect in the market after the reopening of the transfer window in January, with heavyweights like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Arsenal reportedly tracking him since the last summer.

However, the injury means that the no team would buy the injured German International, as he is likely to spend more time on the sidelines than on the pitch in the near future.

However, with Goretzka’s contract expiring next summer, the same teams would definitely have a go for the midfielder. If the starlet doesn’t sign a new contract with his current Bundesliga side, interested parties will be up to snatching him for free.

The young midfielder has scored 6 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions, and appears set to have a bright future ahead.
