Jose Mourinho seems to have finally set his sights on plugging the hole in the Manchester United defense once and for all. And to realise this, the Red Devils’ boss is keen on signing Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.

That’s according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, who have reported that the Manchester outfit will make an attempt to sign not only the Barca centre-back, but also a growing fan-favourite, Sergi Roberto.

The Portuguese tactician successfully imported Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof, but the latter failed to show any promise or long-term reliability in guarding the Old Trafford goal.

Matic, on the other hand, has offered up the much-needed freedom for Paul Pogba in midfield, but unfortunately, is shy of offering the constant stability that Mourinho was hoping for.

Nevertheless, the Premier League giants intend to splash the cash to secure the signing of the pair from Nou Camp, and are lining up a combined offer worth £90 million, according to Don Balon.

Umtiti, being one of the best defenders in La Liga, and Roberto increasingly becoming a rising star, Mourinho’s side may end up becoming unplayable should they manage to strike a deal.

However, Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in the Frenchman, and are even ready to exchange former United star Angel di Maria in a potential swap deal.

On the other hand, last season’s Europa League champions are not hesitant to pay the French international’s full £60 million release clause.

However, the deal might prove to be very hard to strike nonetheless, considering Ernesto Valverde’s refusal to entertain the idea of letting go of either players.
