Philippe Coutinho’s impending move to Barcelona was one of the key highlights of the summer transfer window, and much like most of the sagas during the period, it ended with no deal making it through.

However, that could change quickly in January, and the resultant transfer is all set to be a massive one.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona and Liverpool have agreed to a transfer fee of £132 million for Coutinho, who had handed over a transfer request back in the summer.

However, despite three attempts by the Catalan giants, the move didn’t come through, as the English side was adamant on not selling their star player. But now, it certainly seems that Barca are willing to splash the cash, and the Reds might agree to this sum.

Should the deal go through, it would be the most expensive purchase for the La Liga giants, who spent a similarly daunting amount on Ousmane Dembele following the world record departure of Neymar to PSG.

Further, the source believes the contract being offered to the 25-year-old Brazilian to be worth £204,000-a-week, which will last upto the 2022-23 season.

This would mean that the player would pocket £10.6 million every year, which is a massive jump in pay grade. The amount would be paid to Liverpool in installments.

The source also claims that an agreement was reached between the player and the club officials, and that an affirmative from Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, is all that is required for the transfer to go through.

With the winter window merely days away, this remnant of the summer could certainly make big news, and will also have a tremendous ripple effect. Further, if the Reds decides to hold out for an even larger sum, what will be the final form of this eye-catching offer?
