Dimitri Payet left a hole in the heart of supporters when he left West Ham on bad terms after asserting that he had to head back to the Ligue 1, to a club he truly admired the most.

The 30-year-old isn’t doing particularly well to be the centre of attraction in Marseille. The talented attacker has only scored thrice, and has three assists to his name in 15 league appearances this campaign.

Payet hasn’t shown any consistency, owing to which he’s been in and out of the team. Florian Thauvin and Lucas Ocampos, players who share the same position as him, are in fact having much more game time than the Frenchman.

The Ligue 1 side secured a victory yesterday, as they clashed their horns with Strasbourg. The 2-0 win ensured them the second spot in the league table, nine points below Paris Saint-Germain.

Inevitably, even against Strasbourg, the France international didn’t start, as former Tottenham man Clinton N’Jie bestowed the Olympians the lead in the Velodrome.

Nevertheless, Payet had a decisive impact on the fixture when he was brought on, as he scored the second goal, thereby extending the lead and polishing the triumph.

However, the goal was peculiar, enticing attention, as the celebrated midfielder managed to injure the goalkeeper while he netted the glory. He conjured up a dummy on a one-on-one chance against the goalkeeper.

The keeper, Alexandre Oukidja, while endeavouring an attempt to save his side from being two down, injured his knee and had to be stretchered off from the game in the late moments.

The incident undoubtedly triggered reactions on the social media.
