Manchester United and Manchester City are currently dominating the Premier League table, with the Sky Blues emerging with the lion’s share of wins and goals, as they boast a 13-point lead over their bitter rivals.

However, very soon, the Citizens could boast of the signature of a player that has been hotly pursued by both the English clubs, or at least that is what the former coach of this highly rated target claims.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s talented Brazilian, Fred, has been on the radars of both the clubs for quite some time now, but according to his former coach Mircea Lucescu, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder has already chosen his next destination.

Speaking on the transfer tussle, Lucescu, who is now the coach of the Turkish national team, claimed [via Mirror]: “Shakhtar Donetsk’s best player is Fred in the center of midfield. He was a bit anarchic on the left. I moved him in front of the defense. He will go to City like Fernandinho before him.”

The manager held a 12-year long reign at the Ukrainian club, during which he made the purchase of the Brazilian starlet, who has since gone on to impress quite a bit.

Having replaced City-bound Fernandinho back in 2013, who did so for a fee of £34 million, Fred could now do the same at City. The starlet could be an apt replacement for his Brazilian compatriot, who turns 33 at the end of this season.

This will be a big blow for Jose Mourinho, who appeared eager to make the signing. Nevertheless, if this winter’s activity is any proof, nothing should be taken for granted when it comes to the transfer activities of the two financially well-endowed Mancunian clubs.
