WATCH: How Jose Mourinho Reacted To Juan Mata’s Miss Against Liverpool
Manchester United snatched a stellar win over arch-rivals Liverpool in the much-awaited Premier League encounter on Saturday.
A brace from Marcus Rashford early in the first half sealed the game for the Red Devils, and despite Eric Bailly scoring a freakish own goal in the second half, the home team managed to keep Liverpool’s fearsome attack quiet for the entirety of the match.
Manchester United did experience a nervy final few minutes, but they could have avoided it altogether had their star playmaker Juan Mata managed to convert one of the best chances of the match.
Five minutes before the break, Alexis Sanchez made a super pass to the Spanish international, and Mata found himself in acres of space in the Liverpool box, one-on-one with Reds’ goalkeeper Loris Karius.
But instead of taking full control of the ball before taking his shot, the 29-year-old opted for a spectacular first-time volley – similar to the blinder he scored at Anfield back in 2015. Except this time, he missed the target, thereby failing to give his side a 3-goal advantage.

Naturally, manager Jose Mourinho was appalled at the miss, and he did not attempt to hide his disbelief on the United bench.
Here’s how the Portuguese tactician reacted to Mata’s off-target attempt:

Despite the former Chelsea superstar’s miss, however, the Mancunian giants ended up bagging the crucial victory in the end without much trouble.
This result now takes the Old Trafford outfit 5 points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s men, giving them an added boost in the race to finish second in the league table.
