One of the greatest figures in the history of the sport or not, Cristiano Ronaldo would always be among the names that surface in one’s mind during a discussion about simulation or diving.
And it seems like consciously or not, the Portuguese just can’t stop avoiding such situations, as he embarrassed himself once again during the World Cup friendly against Netherlands.
Ronaldo failed to muster up the magic that earned him 2 injury-time goals against Egypt to clinch the victory for his country in clutch time.
Portugal seemed to have not showed up against the Dutch, and covered their head in shame as the final whistle blew with the scoreline 3-0 in favour of Holland. Goals from Memphis Depay, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Babel had already buried the game in the first half.
However, rather than the result, it was the Real Madrid talisman’s almost hilarious attempt at claiming a penalty that made the trashing on the pitch worse.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was clearly frustrated, as he kicked the turf and went down inside the penalty box. He then proceeded to beg for a spot-kick, which the match official did not acknowledge.

It was not Ronaldo and his team’s day, as they tasted defeat from a Dutch side that left a hollow impact on England in their last fixture. Do the European champions still look like World Cup contenders?
