Manchester United have won the race for Polish teenager Lukasz Bejger, beating cross-town rivals Manchester City to his signature.

United have been tracking the starlet for a while now, and decided to hand him an invitation to have a trial with them back in August last year.

After impressing the club’s officials with his performances, they decided to move in swiftly, and wrapped up the negotiations before City could attempt to steal him from under their noses.

The Old Trafford club has been executing the mass recruitment plan put into place ever since Nicky Butt, one of the famed class of ’92 academy graduates, was appointed as the head of the club’s academy.

Before his arrival, the club endured a period where the players coming through just weren’t good enough to make it through to the first team.

A few exceptions, such as Marcus Rashford, Axel Tuanzebe, and Angel Gomes aside, there was a stark lack in quality compared to the youth teams of the past.

Butt was brought in back in 2016 to rectify the problem as soon as possible, and he has done an admirable job since.

The likes of Tahith Chong, Lee O’Connor, Nishan Burkart, Millen Baars, Joshua Bohui, Aliou Traore an Arnau Puigmal have all been brought in in the last couple of years, and Bejger is set to join them.

The 16-year-old Pole was appointed the captain of his country’s U-16 national side, having only made his debut for them last year against Scotland.

As per Manchester Evening News, the center-back is set to be added to United’s academy before the beginning of next season.
