Juventus Leading The Race To Sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Man United have been linked with a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic since quite some time, but reports state that they may miss out on his signature.

United have put the Lazio midfielder as one of their prime targets to replace Michael Carrick. Also, the future of Marouane Fellaini is unknown, and that could prompt Jose Mourinho to go for a recognised midfielder, with Savic being an option.

The talented player has scored 13 goals in 44 games for his club this season. This is the sort of player Mourinho needs in the line-up for United next season, in order to challenge City for the league title.

But according to a report in ​Calciomercato, Italian champions Juventus are also said to be interested in the player, and could be in a leading position in trumping the Old Trafford club for his signature.

The report also states that the Bianconeri have supposedly held discussions with their Serie A counterparts, and have made the player’s camp know about their alleged interest.

Juventus have the likes of Sami Khedira and Blaise Matuidi in their team, but getting Savic would be a statement of intent from the club.

Meanwhile, the player’s agent is believed to have been in constant touch with the Turin club, and that means United will have to step up their interest and make a formal bid for the midfielder. It remains to be seen whether the player will be determined to stay in Italy or make a move to England.

Savic could be the ideal addition at United, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera in the Mourinho set-up. Whether the Reds do get their star player is a question, but they could be set to make a bid and try to outsmart Juve for his signature.
