Man United legend Edwin van der Sar is reportedly blocking the Red Devils from signing Ajax starlet Justin Kluivert.

Justin Kluivert, son of Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert, has been on Jose Mourinho’s radar for quite a while. In fact, reports indicated that after the conclusion of last season’s Europa League final, the Portuguese had promised to sign the youngster in the future.

This season, however, the 18-year-old remained at Ajax, where he has been largely impressive, having bagged 9 goals in 29 appearances amongst his other offensive contributions.

The youngster’s exploits have caught the attention of several European giants, and as per Mirror, Man United are finally prepared to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams come summer.

However, a huge roadblock stands in the way of the Reds’ pursuit, in the form of their very own club legend, Edwin van der Sar.

The Dutchman spent six seasons at Old Trafford outfit, wherein he made 260 appearances and helped the club achieve Premier League as well as Champions League glory.

Following his retirement, the legendary goalkeeper returned to his homeland, and he is currently the chief executive officer at Ajax.

Naturally, as his role demands, van der Sar intends to do whatever is best for his club, even if that means preventing his former team from signing a talent as promising as Kluivert.

The Eredivisie club had previously offered the Holland international a bumper deal that would have made him the highest paid player at Ajax, but the forward supposedly turned it down.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the celebrated goalkeeper, who has made a living out of stopping the ball from entering the back of his net, can find a way to stop a prized asset from departing his club.
