REVEALED: Why Diogo Dalot’s Man United Transfer Is Taking So Long
The entire Manchester United fanbase received quite a shocking news at the start of the week, as several sources indicated that the Red Devils had already reached an agreement to bring in Porto right-back Diogo Dalot.
Jose Mourinho was expected to kickstart his summer spending spree by finalising the transfer of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, but new reports claimed that Dalot could be the first player to arrive at the Mancunian club in this ongoing transfer window.
However, neither of the two transfers have been officially announced yet, which had caused a bit of an unrest amongst the United supporters.
Amid the chaos, Portuguese newspaper A Bola has provided an update on the developments in the Dalot saga, by revealing that while a 5-year contract has been agreed to, the medical examination still remains, and the official announcement could be made ‘in the next few days’.

This switch was initially expected to be announced much earlier, but there seems to be a delay due to the fact that Dalot’s departure from Porto has caused a huge controversy at the Primeira Liga club.
Dalot, who spent his developmental years at Porto, is being accused of betraying his team, which hasn’t gone down well with the club officials as well as its fanbase. In fact, the 19-year-old has also been on the receiving end of numerous verbal attacks on social media.

The Portuguese outfit reportedly did not expect the defender to secure an exit this early in his career, which is precisely why they agreed to sell Ricardo Pereira to Leicester City earlier this month in the first place. But now, with Dalot’s departure, they look set to lose two right-backs in the same transfer window.
Furthermore, it is also being claimed that Dalot has been ungrateful towards his boyhood club, as he has consistently rejected several renewal offers from Porto – deals which could have helped the club get a bigger fee from his sale than the €20m United shall pay them by activating the player’s current release clause.
However, Record have insisted that the player is actually innocent, as he received no renewal offers from the club whatsoever, despite his agent informing Porto of the strong interest the young starlet had attracted from numerous parties.

But due to the love Dalot bears for his boyhood club, the versatile full-back has reportedly asked Manchester United to pay Porto a sum bigger than the €20m his release clause demands, with A Bola claiming the final fee could reach the region of €24m.
As per the terms of his Porto contract, however, the €20m release clause can only be triggered post June 30, which is why the Mancunian giants are currently in discussions with the Dragons over the player’s final transfer fee.
As soon as the two European giants reach an agreement on the price, the transfer shall be officially announced by both parties.
