Transfer news seemed to be all but paused for Manchester United following the commencement of the World Cup. However, the action being focused on Russia could also function as some much-needed conduits for clubs to use players in getting great talents.
While this functioning of agent-players isn’t uncommon, it is often more the fodder of rumormongers and excited fans than the source of a credible update.
And yet, one such tease, through a social media post, has sent United fans into excitement over the possibility that a summer prospect they had long given up on could be still brought to Old Trafford.
An Instagram post from Nemanja Matic relating to his Serbian compatriot and long-held United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is the source of this particular buzz.
The holding midfielder’s post showcasing him and Sergej at the heart of a midfield brawl bore the caption: “Together we are always stronger.”
This has led fans to be very excited indeed, and revisit the possibility of a midfield consisting of the physically and creatively imposing duo, while Paul Pogba would be left free to wreak havoc up front.
Incidentally, talks of the deal had died down weeks ago, with claims reporting that United had backed out of negotiations following Lazio hiking the price far too up once interest from the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid for the 23-year-old started making the rounds.
It appeared that United were not at all ready to be bullied to pay a hiked fee, and as a result, had given up. However, fresh claims suggest that a £78 million move could still be on the cards, and that the Red Devils are favorites to bag the immensely talented midfielder.
His arrival could also be the much-needed marquee signing that United need to bring in a match-winning factor into their team, something that the arrivals of Pogba and Sanchez, while significant, is yet to consistently provide.
