When you look at Manchester United and Liverpool, the two clubs share an intense history of rivalry that has continued even till today. From ex-players to fans, people still share a strong emotion when it comes to the two clubs on and off the field.

And prior to the highly anticipated clash between Arsenal and Liverpool on Sunday, a Merseysiders’ fan wanted a quick photo with his son, when he spotted United legend Rio Ferdinand at the Emirates.

Ferdinand was on punditry duty for BT Sport’s coverage of the crunch encounter. Before the game kicked off, Ferdinand was asked by him to click a photo, and then this happened.

This post by the fan on Twitter, which describes Ferdinand’s actions, garnered a lot of attention. Twitteratis praised the fan for taking the reaction in a sporting manner.

This isn’t the first time these incidents have occurred. Images floated on Twitter that show the likes of former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard showing his middle finger while taking a photo with a United fan while playing for LA Galaxy.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville too, can be seen hiding the logo of Liverpool on the jersey worn by the Reds’ fan when the latter clicked a photo with him.

Ferdinand would have wanted Liverpool to beat Arsenal, but, unfortunately the match ended in a 1-1 draw. An entertaining match saw goals from James Milner and Alexandre Lacazette ensuring both sides shared the spoils.
