Jose Mourinho continues to fight for his Manchester United future day in and day out, although his team’s inconsistent results aren’t precisely helping his case.
Despite a golden chance to top their Champions League group, the Red Devils finished second thanks to a 2-1 defeat to Valencia. On the other hand, they sit 6th in the Premier League table, 16 points behind toppers Manchester City.
The Old Trafford hierarchy appears to have already begun looking for potential managerial candidates, as a clause in the Portuguese’s contract allows the club to part ways with him for a heavily discounted fee if he fails to secure a top 4 finish – an outcome that looks increasingly likely as the season progresses.
Meanwhile, according to the latest report from The Sun, the Mancunian giants have narrowed their list of potential managerial candidates down to just one man: Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentinian has worked wonders at Tottenham, having led the side to a top 4 finish in three consecutive seasons. He signed a brand new £8m-a-season deal with the Londoners only last summer, as he is determined to lead the club into their new stadium next year.
However, not all has been well at Spurs. The fact that they were the only Premier League club to have failed to sign a player in the 2018 summer window did not go down well with Poch, who remained adamant that his side needed an injection of fresh talent.

Manchester United remain eager to bring Pochettino to the Theatre of Dreams before the next campaign begins, although they are set to face heavy competition from Spanish juggernauts Real Madrid.
The report adds that the Reds have already prepared an offer worth £40 million for the former Southampton gaffer, as they believe he is the only man capable of helping them return to the top of English football.
