Manchester United fans were left shocked when the Glazers decided to let go of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese boss was finally relieved of his duties after the club endured its worst start to the Premier League in 26 years.
Mourinho has been critical of the transfer policy that was followed by Ed Woodward. The gaffer wanted to bring in a central defender throughout the summer, but the United vice-chairman wasn’t ready to shell out the cash for Alderweireld or Maguire.
Jose was keen to turn around Manchester United‘s season, and made Kalidou Koulibaly his top target for the upcoming transfer window.
In fact, as per a report in the Metro, Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis recently confirmed that the Red Devils made a £95 million bid for the Senegalese International earlier this week.
The Serie A giants were quick to reject the bid, however, as they have no intention of selling the player at this moment.
‘Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95 million. But now it’s impossible that he leaves Napoli,’ De Laurentiis revealed.
Manchester United have since appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the caretaker manager. The former striker will have the trio of Mike Phelan, Michael Carrick, and Kieran McKenna taking up the coaching roles at Carrington.
Molde confirmed that the Norwegian tactician will be making the move to England on a short-term basis, and will return to Norway at the end of this season.
Solskjaer will be looking to turn around the Red Devils’ season by securing a top 4 finish in the Premier League. Though far-fetched, he will have his eyes on the Champions League as well, where Paris Saint-Germain await them in the Round of 16.
